DOMINATION OF TURKEY'S TEAMS
Domination of Turkey’s teams at 12th European Karate Championships for Regions.
The most important event of the year on club level in Europe, 12th European Karate Championships for Regions ended today. The Championship took place in Izmir, Turkey. Eliminations, repechages and fights for bronze medals were held yesterday, on Saturday while 8th of June, Sunday was reserved for finals of kata and kumite teams in cadet-junior and senior categories. At the championship, there were 111 teams participating from 19 countries.
Turkey ended up in the first place by winning 12 medals – 4 gold, 1 silver, 7 bronze (36 total entries), while Russia was the second best by winning 4 medals – 2 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze (10 total entries). Croatia took the third position by winning 1 gold and 1 silver medal – both in kata teams (2 total entries). It is also interesting to mention that both Croatian kata teams were bronze at the last European Championship in Finland.
GREETINGS FROM ESPINOS
World Karate Federation President Antonio Espinos who came to İzmir to follow the championship, warmly thanked the Turkish Karate Federation for a successful job. At the closing ceremony Espinos said that everybody was leaving Izmir with nice feelings and that we always trust the Turkish Karate family and of course believe that it will organize next year’s European Championship in Istanbul in the best possible way.
